I'm greatful to be a part of this unique group of enthusiasts!! I've already taken "advantage" of the vast experience and knowledge that you all bring to the table. To have information at your fingertips that is specific to year and model is extraordinary. Thank you so much for creating this for the true 1970 Mustang Mach 1 owners !! It is PRICELESS!

Well...I'll give a "brief" story of my purchase and current status...if anyone wants detailed information on what has been done to my car in the last 4 months, please feel free. I have every invoice, part number, cost, etc. that I will be glad to share. Basically, the pony has gone from the grave to breathing fresh air again in 4 months. Next large expense will be to repaint her...saving for that one....as normal, the last 4 months have drained every ounce of savings I had. The unexpected costs are always the killer. When you read the first line of the "story" you will see that I'm apparently not the sharpest tool in the shed! Well, here you go:
---------
Purchased in Nov. 2008 from e-bay, sight unseen...MISTAKE!
Seller was dishonest to say the least. Amazing what you can do with touch up paint, camera angles and "foam filler." Without going in to all of that, this poor pony should have gone to the glue factory long ago. However, the true horse-lover that I am, I felt obligated to lead her to water and make her drink....and drink she did. Every time I looked at the poor ole gal, she needed something else. When a "vein" was unclogged, it made her heart stop. When one part was replace, another trouble spot was uncovered. In quick response, her heart was renewed, her hooves repaired and everything between her shiny new teeth to her curvaceous new rear was taken care of. Now she boasts the fight of 400+ horses, nays like a lion (and eats/drinks like one too) and runs faster than Secretariat. I think the loving care of a true horse-lover has done her justice. She remains comfortable and proud whether inside her stable or out showing off.
Some specs now:
351 Small Block Windsor Engine, V8, 5.8 Liter
Edelbrock Top End (Performer RPM Air Gap 400+ hp, 412ft lbs)
- Cam & Lifters, flat tappet, duration 290/300, Lift .496/.520
Holley 770cfm Street Avenger carburetor
Proform HEI Distributor,
Axle & Gear Ring and Pinion Gears, 4.11:1 Ratio
About 3 more pages of items that are new/replaced in the last 4 months, including a 3" binder filled with related invoices.
CHA-CHING !!! OUCH !!! Sad
Regards,
Kirk

great story Kirk (first installment anyway Very Happy ) and well told.

I was much luckier, I also purchased sight unseen off Craigs List, I was incredibly fortunate that I found a very honest and dedicated seller who helped big time, the main headache was dealing with global shipping companies. (seems like someone killed all their pets when they were young).
Slowly working my way through local stuff to get her closer to a daily driver- at least a when I feel like it driver!
351C with significant work on heads, mild cam 750 Holley man sec pumper
Drinks like a fish Bad)
As you know she has a 4.11 rear also but not good on a road longer than about 1 mile but gets up and goes very quickly Twisted Evil

Also rapt with this site, wish I had thought of it before I bought as it has many gems of info.

Sean

Yes, its the first and last time I will ever do that. Live and learn the hard way I guess. I'm just saddened that so many folks are out there just praying on people. Aren't we suppose to get better with each new generation? What the heck happened ?? Its very, very disturbing!!

Regarding my saga, at this point I could have purchased a 2010 Cobra, cash. And I still have a ways to go to get the 1970 where I want it to be. All I can do know is cherish what I have, live with my poor decision (not the decision to get a 1970, the decision to purchase on e-bay) and not think about "what should have been."

Buyer beware !! Mr.Red

Its too bad....most of my purchases from Ebay I have done o.k but I also have been taken a couple times. I guess everyones discription of an item is different which can create a problem.

True, but my greatest disappointment wasn't the wording/ad itself. It was all of the telephone conversations with the owner that really stabbed me in the back. He was very good at not being honest. His name is Ron Culver, from Washington State, in case anyone runs across his name. I know its extremely unlikely, but I feel better putting his name/reputation out there. He also apparently works/volunteers at some of the auctions in the US (Steele).

Anyway, I sure wish I didn't live across the country from him...I'd love to pay him a personal visit sometime !!! puker
