1970 Hood Trim Support: Do You Need One? Empty
PostSubject: 1970 Hood Trim Support: Do You Need One?   1970 Hood Trim Support: Do You Need One? EmptySat 1 Jan - 17:23

I've been giving some serious thought to reproducing the hood trim support brace (service part number D0ZZ-16C694-A) that was used on 1970 Mustangs. I don't think anyone else is reproducing it, and they're hard to find in good condition. A decent used one recently sold on ebay for more than $200! Before I sink a lot of money into the project, though, I'd like to confirm a few things:

* Was this part originally painted black? The two that I've seen recently both have traces of black paint on them, but I can't be sure that it's original.
* What would you be willing to pay for this part if the repro is concours-correct?
* Would it matter if some improvements were made to improve durability, such as using stainless or galvanized steel?
* Would it matter if the part were sold directly from a small company, or would you prefer to buy from a larger, more established company?

Looking forward to your thoughts and comments!

I would be willing to pay about the same for a spot on repro one. Since it is sandwiched between the peak moulding and hood anyway, I'd be more interested in it from the aspect of correct fitment of the moulding.

I agree that as close to original as possible is preferred.

As simple a piece as these are, originals are terribly overpriced IMO.

Put me on a list for notification if you want.

regards,

Steve

Would the production of this part will go on?

Thanks! Ray

I recently bought the black reproduction front hood peak moulding support from Jim Cowles at Shelby Parts and Restoration (www.shelbyparts.com). Fits great and neatens things up. Cost 105 shipped. Well made.

On mine, I had to install it twice. My recommendation is that when installing, locate the "spring wire" portion of the sliding moulding clips to the top as to situate the threaded portion a little lower - then finger tighten. Then get the outer portions / clips / nuts lined up and cinched down first - followed by tightening the others.
