I am getting near the end of a 3 year restoration with my now 18 year old son and have just a few "trouble" spots. We bought the our 70 Mach completely stripped and in boxes. One of the questions I have is the relay (I believe for the sport lights) - it is clear plastic with 2 connections attached to a "semi J" shaped bracket. I hope somebody can tell me where the placement/location of this relay is and possibly what color wires attach to it. The part number looks to be D0AB-13150-F. Thanks in advance for any assistance.

If it makes any difference this Mach 1 is an M-code, 4 speed, shaker, non-A/C car.

It should be in the middle of the dash, just below the dashpad, in front of the radio bezel

Thanks for the reply, 1970twisterspecial. I know where that light switch goes; what I am looking for is a relay - it is a clear plastic "box" containing some internal wiring connected to a "pot metal" semi-J shaped bracket. I think it goes somewhere behind the dash, but I just don't know.

Talked to Fred Ballard, who is a friend of my neighbors from Socal. Fred was once a large dealership part manager and has done numerous Boss 9&2 restorations along with other muscle Ford/Mercury autos. Still owners a pair of Boss 9's - must be tough. Within 5 seconds he told me the part is a warning buzzer form the part number. Here is the problem the last letter in the part number "F" doesn't correspond with either of the 2 buzzer numbers for 1970 mustangs. His bet was it is an ignition buzzer. I've got to figure the previous owner either replaced the original with a "junkyard" part from another Ford or Mercury back in the 70's or the assembly line just put in "the closest part" at the time the car was going down the line.

So it is off to work to search for where the bracket installs, but I now know if it is ignition one of the wires comes off the turn signal loop, if it is door it will be in the drivers corner behind the lower dash and if it is for the lights - well 2 out of 3 locations ain't bad. Cool

Now that we know what it is - where does it go.

I finally found the location. Thei bracket and relay goes inside the dash just to the passager side of the radio, There is a plug on the main wiring harness that fits either the 2 prong relay (what I have) or a 3 prong. My guess is my relay is a door buzzer - the 3 prong is a door and key buzzer. If I find out more, I'll post again.

This seems like a dumb question Mike, but are you sure you have not grabbed the flasher plug for the turn indicator?

Absolutely sure, but one of the flashers sits right next to it. The plug for the flasher fits a "round" type of pattern. The plug for the relay/buzzer fits a plug that is more of a straight line. The plug has 3 slots with a red wire, black wire and a red w/yellow line wire. The slots are staggered with the 2 on the ends even and the center one offset. My relay does not have the center post instead it has a platic guide post that fits outside the plug in the gap from the staggered alignment. My guess is the red w/yellow wire is the key indicator - why. I found a wiring diagram with a key relay/buzzer that took 3 wires. Best guess?????

ok, so I went looking through my manual and found the following:

"Disconnect the plug from the key warning buzzer (after Jan 1 1970) and the two plugs from the turn signal relays."

However this only related to Lincoln not Mustang?

There is also a reference to a lights on warning buzzer but again not for Mustang.

Sorry, cannot help you. I had my dash out a while ago but can't recall this so maybe an open after Jan 1 as mine was built in 69.

I found this same item under the dashpad on my 70 Fairlane 500 and it was not connected. Found this site during a search to find out what it was. Mine fastened to a bracket which is part of the dash frame. The bracket is just to the right of the ashtray on the Fairlane. Look for a small rectangular connector with three openings, but only a red wire on one end and a black wire on the other end.
