PostSubject: 70 Argent Wheels   70 Argent Wheels EmptyMon 15 Mar - 9:45

Anyone have a any info onthe 1970 argent style wheels.
can someone post a picture?
I dont see them on Ebay or any of the vendors sites. Was it a rare
item.
I do not recall ever seeing them in person at shows. Ive had my M1 22 years and just found out from Marti Reports that it supposed to have these wheels and Id like to return it back to stock. so much for the magnum 500's which i cared for so dilegently.

I have seen several sets and individual on ebay in the last few weeks. Try different searches like 70 mustang, 70 Mach 1 or 70 Mach nos etc.

70 Argent Wheels Empty
PostSubject: 70 Argent wheels.   70 Argent Wheels EmptyThu 6 May - 8:45

Hi. I have these on mine. Check out my photo's in members cars. I actually have a spare set that is in storage. Keep in mind I know there are two types of these caps. One type has a different dish offset and different cut out for the wheel valve stem to protrude. I will take same photos of the difference. Also when fitted, many people were fooled into thinking these were actually the wheel and used a wheel brace to remove the fake wheel nuts, as these were made from die cast aluminum they just broke off. I have actually repaired my spare set for this reason. I will try upload pics soon. Good luck

1970 Argent Styled Steel Wheels are quite rare. Not many cars had them. They were a "no cost option" with your choice of the hubcaps others have mentioned or the Styled Steel Wheel.

Hi. As the Marti report says the caps in your picture of the black Mach 1 is 100% correct. These style caps were standard fitment to all Mach 1's. Dealer options were the Magnums. I was once told by an old racer from the late 60's-70's that during the race wars these caps would be taken off just before a race to reduce the weight of the car, this in turn would lead to damage. As I said in my previous post, if you did not realise these were only caps not a real wheel the fake nuts would break off when putting a wheel brace to them as they are made from cast ali. These are very rare to come by that is why many go for the Magnums because they are easy to come buy. When I purchased my first set of caps aroung 18 year ago I think they cost me $1000.00 second hand from a wrecking yard in Orange. Good luck on trying to find a set.

If a 1970 Mach 1 had the "standard" Sport Wheel Covers as pictured on the black Mach 1, the Marti Report would show no option for the wheels or in other words make no reference to wheels. Cars equipped with the wheels I posted a picture of list "Argent Styled Steel Wheels" in the list of options on the Marti Report. I have had eight 1970 Mach 1s and have had the Marti Report on all of them. Of those, 2 had the Argent Styled Steel Wheels (including the one I currently own). If the OPs Marti shows Argent Styled Steel Wheels, he would have had wheels on the car that are exactly like the ones I posted a picture of. They were a 1 year only wheel and also used on a few Rancheros, Cougars and Torinos. I would be happy to post pictures of the marti reports and other documents if you don't want to take my word for it.
