My new 1970 Mach 1 Empty
PostSubject: My new 1970 Mach 1   My new 1970 Mach 1 EmptyThu 30 Apr - 12:56

Well,
I am on the Mach 1 registry with my '03 Mach and some of the guys turned me on to this site so here is the story.......
My First car was a 1969 Mustang GT Sportsroof, Red "S" code with deluxe int. C6, air, fold down, tilt away, etc etc. I have owned 5 or 6 69-70 Mustangs since then. Some Mach 1's.
I have always had a 69-70 Mustang in the garage until 02, I got a wild idea I wanted to fullfill a childhood dream of owning a Corvette. I put up my last 1969 Mustang, another "S" code GT Sportsroof, this one with a 4 speed and factory tach, louvers, spoilers, and Magnums,l Wimbledon White/ black deluxe int(yeah it was a yummy car for sure). I sold it to a really good friend pretty quick and promptly paid cash for said Corvette.
After about 2 years I sold the Vette and looked for another vintage Mustang. I ended up going through a string of late model Cobra's and an SVO over a 7 year period of time, but have always longed for another 69-70.
Well, now I have finally come home, I found this little gem tucked away in a hanger, an ex boss of mine saved it from 25 years of storage and has had it in his hanger for the last 4 years waiting for it to get a turn to be restored. I finally talked him into to selling it to me.
With a squirt of starter fluid and battery in place, the mighty 4V Cleveland roared to life. it coughed and sputtered and smoked for a bit, but the settled into a nice idle. While moving it out, a quick jab to the pedal resulted in two nice black stripes on his concrete in front of the hanger.
Now the meat and potatos of the car, The Certification Label was ripped off but I could make out the bottom line confirming the following:
351 4V
Close Ratio 4 speed
Shaker
Louvers
Factory Tach
Fold Down Rear Seat
Factory A/C
"W" Code axle...4.30 Locker (Not a road trip car!)
Marti Report is ordered and will confirm all of this....Funny how fast your directions can shift for car projects, I am now gathering '70 Mustang Mach parts and preparing for paint.
And now for your viewing pleasure.......The Hanger find!

PostSubject: Re: My new 1970 Mach 1   My new 1970 Mach 1 EmptyMon 4 May - 18:13

Well,
The Marti report showed up over the weekend and with it came alot of confirmation, one assumed, One not original option, and one big surprise.
The confirmed facts.
1970 Mach 1
351 4V
4 Speed Close Ratio Toploader
Dark Ivy Green ext paint (assumed Calypso Coral was not original but did not know correct color)
Black Mach 1 Comfortweave int
Factory Tach
Factory Air Conditioning
Sport Slats
Shaker hood scoop
Sport deck rear seat (So the fold down is not original)
Raised White Letter Tires
Black hood stripe
Locking Rear axle

And now for the big surprise,
The Vin tag is torn off the door jamb, but it looks like whoever did it started at the top as the top is unreadable, but as you get to the bottom, it becomes more legible. The bottom line is almost clear as if the sticker was in place.
I was really surprised when I lookd at the door tag and it said "W" I had always thought that was a Boss 302/SCJ thing. The axle code on the cert label clearly says "W" 4.30...or you could argue "V" 3.91. The Marti report shows "O" 3.00 with locker. It makes sence as hardly any "air" cars got low ratios....in fact, all of my 69-70's with air had 3.00's My guess is either it is a repo door tag or a replacement door (Cant see the vin portion of the tag)
My big dilemma is now with the ext paint color. I LOVE the Calypso Coral. That made me notice and long for this car since I first saw it. And it is the color of the Boss 302 I almost purchased. I am a big purist when it comes to ext paint color, I will change alot but kinda like to stick to the original color. But in this case...I am not a fan of the Dark Ivy Green. So I am faced with the following dilemma, Keep Calypso Coral, Or Paint Yellow to match the 2003 Mach, Or paint it my all time fav color on the 69-70 cars, Dark Aqua. Dark Aqua was offered on Tbirds in 1970, about 10 years ago there was a story in Mustang Monthly about a guy who ordered a new Boss 302 in '70 and ordered that color, He had it 20 years and decided to go through and restore...He had just restored it and took it to an MCA show in 95-96, and thats when they shot it for MM. I fell in love with the color and have wanted to do a 69-70 that color ever since.
I found this picture of that car on the Boss 302 registry...check it out...I kinda figure, if I am going to change....it would not be as bad to just change shades of green lol

Hi!

I have seen this Boss 302 Dark Aqua Metallic at Charlotte in 1994.

This color is available on a 1970 Mach1 in 1970. Only 167 was built.

I just ordered the standard report. I figured I wanted the info asap and will def upgrade to the Deluxe report later...they discount 15.00 off the bill of a deluxe if you decide to upgrade from the standard report after the fact, so I figured you cant lose, its like getting the standard report for free almost.

Ya I ordered the 1st and 2nd part a few years ago and just decided I might as well order the rest of the package. Doubt my Mach will ever go back to 100% factory but its still nice information to have

Just changed my avatar...it is the only picture I have right now due to the weather being so crappy, sunny when I work, rainy when I am off, both cars are sooo dirty right now and I am still trying to get the Cobra out of the garage so the Machs can rest safe and sound.

Ain't 'Sport deck rear seat' the code for the folddown ?
My Mach1 has the normal seat, which doesn't mention on the Marti Report

So when I read your post I had to do some thinking....I had always thought that a "sport deck rear seat" was a non fold down seat, seems somewhere in the 69 literature that the non fold down seat had a "Sport Deck"
So I dug out my trusty "Mustang Recognition Guide"
My new 1970 Mach 1 513S0FT7FWL__SL500_AA240_
and flipped to the 1970 section, and lo and behold it said under "interior options"
Optional Sport Deck rear fold down seat.
So I guess you are right and it is original...cool. Too bad I did not have Magnums on that option list as well

"Mustang Recognition Guide" is a great book.....Odd that Magnum 500's weren't an option for a Mach. Oh well....they still look great on them

Dark Aqua Metallic (Code F) ia a '69 color available as a special order in '70. Marti Report I have says 171 built with this code. I'm considering buying one now this color with White Clarion interior (Code 3W). Marti Report says 52 were made with this Paint/Trim codes.
